Storm On Fisherman Villages

Tanjungpinang City. Almost this full week I’m being busy did the survey, collecting information, and preparing the calculation damage from impact of storm disaster incident on June 20, 2007.

That morning at time 2:50AM, I’m still awaked in my room browsing internet. And there were raining out there. I heard noisy of wind trembling branch trees all around with more and more swift. My though was still focus on screen and what I’m working out. Several time, the electricity was unstable then voltage became up and down. Thank to the house’s stabilizer voltage it did not intrud on computer where I’m using. It more and more noisy out there. I just ignored it.

At 6:00 am the disaster news was spread. On 8:00 am the Governor came to the one of fisherman village’s location to see the impact of disaster, and founded few wood platform of outside kitchen, home and several small boats were destroy. There did not had any die victims.

The official workers have been assignment to do survey on disaster location. By the informaton collect from district administrered authority they found on several separate places as these pictures..

There are 72 families of poor fisherman victims and material loss almost $ 10.109,89 USD.

Legend of Treasure Island

Once upon a time, there was a great of Malay’s kingdom. For long long time ago they built an empire on the famous trade route in Malay Peninsula, or we know at present day as Bintan Island.

The malay history proofing that Malay’s navy long time ago was Bugis and “orang laut” (sea people), which almost of them were ex of pirates. From there we can figure it out why the Malay’s empire can hold out for centuries, and of course from Portuges Navy. My father said from Portuguese the “RIAU” name was known as source. He said from legend story where Potuges ship chase the Sultan ship into the river of Bintan’s Isles, they yell of “Rio! Rio!” which mean in portuguese is “river”. Then word of “Rio” became a “Riau” for the name of archipelago in this area.

(Historical Ammunition Storage in Penyengat Island)

The kingdom in Bintan Island are located in several places. For now, they were found many of historical building in Penyengat Island such as; storage of ammunition, old fortress, old mosque, ex bathing place for the Sultan or his mistress, and an old houses. And the island distance is suppose 328 yards infront of Tanjungpinang City in the big land of Bintan. Tanjungpinang is known as new land site for the city, local people said there was an older land site here in Bintan is Senggarang. And it is an older house there but it meaning for anything.

Local peoples believe that the older palace was located in “Kota Piring”, but there not much thing to proof the exist of a castle except the old of family grave. Other believe that castle was built in the other side of river “Sungai Timun” infront of Kota Piring. For common people, the legend of treasure island only a myth of Bintan Island. But most of them are believe it was true story. There are few locals people saw existing an old collapse building in another small islands in South of Dompak Island the other side of Bintan Island. But there not many people are going there.

From what I knew, in time the authority open a new road to “Sungai Timun” river there found many old plates under the ground near the river. Maybe that is why they call the area is “Kota Piring” that meaning of Plates City. But there much more in there. There is a site near the new open road where local peoples believe is a site of castle. When authority did survey to the site there is an old collapse building resemble a castle, it is similiar a fortress but not much have shape left except the few wall and site of exbuilding. Beside that there are many cuts ground similar holes which believe digged by treasure hunters for gold.

Little Trip To Trikora

In our home land Trikora is our favorite beach in Bintan Island. In there we can explore the white beach, swimming in the clear sea water, travels to small islands around, there we can surving with parachute, playing watercraft “jetski” all day long, playing volley beach, play golf, take a spa, and many activities more in there.

We can spend a night in hotels, many great hotels are available from local to the international. On a private beach that own by the hotels we can go with their bus or we can go by our car to the public area.

Just like a picture above we spended our time in public area. We rented two shelters during a day in there. With some friends we were enjoy our Friday holiday. Each of us brought one food or drink, and then make a party for all of us. We toasted the corns flavor, toasted fishes flavor to eat with rice, made some “rujak” (fruits with chili papper sauce), and more others..

You know, after swim and play with our kid every single food are more need it to fill our stomach..
Like this food ...

..ups, sorry! We already eat the fish! Don’t have any more picture of fish flavor toast..

But we still have this one to eat. Yumm.. it was our corns flavor toast!

So, let’s continue the story shall we. For a single, they had their own activity to enjoy this trip. Walking around in the beach with their “friend”, talking nice with each other, sometimes flirt, some times laugh, and suddenly.. their both were vanish.. ! I didn't knew where they going. ..really..

Ehm.. so in the end of the trip, we all prepared to going back home. In the group we separated on three vehicles. But my friends in two vehicles were continue their trip to Lagoy which another place to relax. But mine, was going straight to our home...

The Growth Triangle

by Marc Thalmann & Gilles Massot

"In the late 1980’s, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur and Jakarta agreed to embark on a long-term project termed ‘the growth triangle’. The basic idea was to link Singapore, Johor and the Riau Archipelago.. "

Recommendation :

Marc Thalmann & Gilles Massot are from Swiss among several researchers which be present for spoken on "Revitalizing Malay Culture Festival" forum, the international event of malay world reality of pluralism at Senggarang - Tanjungpinang City in 28 July until 1 August 2004 ago. And their topic is significant that will be want you read to know about Bintan Island and their point of expansion with malay world on these day.

Airport Meant For Population Mobility

by: Wison, SE

Nice to know local airport is going to serve again, since my last usage year 1994! It's quite an old airport and also stated international at the old times. Haven figured out what is going to be with the new face yet! But I'm so impressed and very appreciated with gratitude towards the province authority especially governor and small numbers of province municipal council members that fight to the airport open.

If we talk about airport then we are talking about mobilization, equivalent to dynamics demographical change. Cools, that mean in the future we would have another extraordinary changes of the population numbers in the area. There would be migration of people all over the nation to visit this island and hopefully there will also some new local investment. HOPEFULLY!

Ja, that would be another matter of times sequel. Using "hopefully" wording might sound confuse, actually its really sound stupid! Well, why then? I'll take an example: Batam Island in early 1980s from remote to metropolitan. At that time, the Head of Batam Authority Mr BJ Habibie had made superb pilot project and brought Batam Island into nowadays place of earning and investing. No hidden fee, no extra charge, no tax payer. Everything is cheap, and He did make Batam a heaven to everyone. People all over the nation migrated to Batam Island some even don't know what to do nor skill too, fortunately they willing to catch every chances they got at that time. Everyone earn from ground zero. That's cool. But now Batam no more a heaven for businesses neither investments nor industrials, everything need tax even hidden fee did formed. So many industries and Businesses had closed down services transferring to nearby so call under developed country like Vietnam, Cambodia and China mainland [excluded].

Well, what did they offered! "SMILE" well saying! No interfering in wages, workers worked accordingly to their skill, get paid as what they contributed to their company? Get higher pays by competence! Land rent cheap! No local authority harassing and no one came to office begging for coffee tips!

Oh, now you get it! Great! back to Bintan Island. Will it be another Vietnam, Cambodia and China in Bintan Island? Well, if with skeptical thought then "N-O-P-E"! Bintan Island full of "Hantu or Uka-Uka" scattered all over the island. But don't be afraid they don't choke on us! We could see them clearly and they don't have any bleeding face, blutted eyes, cracking faces and long sharp teeth. In the mean times, is it possible to the newcomer would easily investing their hard earn money in this place, I won't guess, that would be a matter of times too!

OK! Then is there any relation between open airport and the thing I mention above! You'll see in the future! I'm not feng shui master neither madam Laurent, how could I know! Hi.. Hi.. Hi.. just kidding.. But when we think positively then it would bring abundance in this area. New business, new employment, new building, new open land, new criminal, new debt, and of course a lot of new! Even new death ha3X

Will it be another balance numbers of new created employment and the numbers of employment seekers! Will it be enough enforcer with picky picky freaks, we'll see! Well, I'll stop with the above and last but not least important thing is whether this airport support and qualify to mid body airplanes? We have our CN series small mid size airplanes why "no airliner uses it". Malaysia use it without any endangered and accident report! Where was the "Cintailah Produk Indonesia" gone? Well I'm not making fun but need you to think it whether right or not!

Open Geographical Position Of Trade Route

Malay Archiphelago is a group of small and big islands that stretching over a dynamic trade route since many centuries back. Indonesian societies, especially Malay communities have many distinctive ways to expression and dealing their different environment life across the archipelago or response to each and every changes. The changes and social contexts responses had made many formation of Indonesian culture include Malay's own self.

Riau Archipelago Region on 1999

The open geographical potition is a region broadly defind as encompassing the Malay Peninsula, Western Borneo, and Eastern Sumatera which extends south of the Asian continent makes Riau Archipelago constantly shape by historical influence. Many Nations and ethnicities came and had struggle over dominance in this strategic and important international of trade route. They came from China, Arab-Persia, India, Europe, as well from Bugis to Java.

As we known the combination of different cultured makes Malay culture so dinamic and pluralistic. And despite all academic and political debates about ethnicity of Malay differencies characteristic, it's interesting to study much more in the future. So we all have a moral obligation to preserve this great cultures because cultural heritage does not belong to one country but it's belong to the whole world civilization.

The stated of Malay's legendary figure Hang Tuah is "Malay will never perish from earth!" (Takkan Melayu hilang di Bumi!).
